ARCHIVED: In my RFS space at IU, what is the 1day-backup folder?

Note:
The Indiana University Research File System (RFS) will be decommissioned the week of January 2, 2017. Most RFS accounts (with few exceptions) are now read-only. For details, see ARCHIVED: About the retirement of the Research File System at IU.

At Indiana University, the 1day-backup read-only folder in your Research File System (RFS) space contains a snapshot of your files as of the previous night. If you accidentally delete a file, you should be able to restore it from the 1day-backup folder.

Even if your account was empty, the backup folder should still contain an entry for the 1day-backup mount point. If your folder does not contain this or any other entry, email Research Storage and ask to have the problem fixed.

Note: Do not try to delete the 1day-backup folder or change its name. The space used by this folder does not count against your RFS account quota.
