ARCHIVED: At IUB, how can I use WorldCat?

WorldCat, OCLC's worldwide union catalog, is the world's most comprehensive bibliographic database, with more than 57 million records from libraries and other institutions around the world. You can use WorldCat to do a comprehensive search of published material, to verify citations, or to identify which libraries own an item.

Access to WorldCat is provided via FirstSearch, which allows you to search by author, title, and subject. After you have connected to WorldCat, click the question mark icon to learn about the many features of FirstSearch.

WorldCat is available to Indiana University Bloomington students, faculty, and staff at any public workstation in any IUB library. If you are connecting from off campus and have not already authenticated to the ADS domain, you will need to enter your Network ID username and passphrase for remote access via a proxy server.

To access WorldCat, visit:

http://www.libraries.iub.edu/index.php?pageId=16

On the left, under "Top 10 Resources", click the link to WorldCat.

For assistance in using WorldCat, please contact the Reference Department in the Herman B Wells Library, via phone at 812-855-8028 or via email at  libref@indiana.edu . You can find the Wells Library's hours at:

http://www.libraries.iub.edu/index.php?pageId=11&getLibrary=15

On the right side of the page, select the link for the appropriate semester.

You can find more information on OCLC's WorldCat page at:
