ARCHIVED: How can I link to an email address from a web page?

To link to an email address from a web page, specify a URL that has mailto as the protocol, followed by the email address to which mail should be sent, for example:

Send mail to <a href="mailto:dvader@deathstar.empire.gov">Darth Vader</a>.

When users of the site click the link, their default email program will open and begin a new message to the email address. Consider using the email address as the link text so that users can see the address without having to follow the link.

Note: If you are responsible for a web space, you should be aware that email addresses published on your pages are vulnerable to being added to unsolicited email (spam) mailing lists. For information on how to avoid this, see How can I protect my web pages from email address harvesting?
