ARCHIVED: Where can I find guides to using frames in web pages?
The World Wide Web Consortium has integrated frames into HTML 4. For more information, consult the frames chapter in the HTML 4 Specification.
The Web Design Group also offers the following resources:
- Guide to frames usage
- The Web Authoring FAQ's section on frames
For information about Microsoft's implementation of frames for Internet Explorer, visit Microsoft's Web Workshop page about creating and using frames.
If possible, limit yourself to the HTML 4 frames specification, as it works with a wider range of browsers.
Note: Frames are not supported by older, less full-featured browsers (e.g., Netscape Navigator prior to 2.0). Building a page that is accessible to these browsers requires a substantial amount of extra work.
