In Microsoft Windows, how do I configure a local printer to convert documents to PostScript format?

In Windows, to configure a local printer to convert documents to PostScript format by default, follow the appropriate instructions below:

Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, and XP

1. From the Start menu, select Settings, then Printers or Printers and Faxes.
   
   
2. Locate the icon for your PostScript printer. You may also install one at this point if you need to. For more information on installing a PostScript printer, see the Knowledge Base document Using Windows, how do I create Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files?
   
   
3. Now you need to set the printer's connection to FILE: by following these steps:
   
   
   1. In Windows XP and 2000, right-click the PostScript printer's icon and select Properties. Select the Ports tab, and check the box next to File: Print to File. In Windows 95, 98, and Me, right-click the PostScript printer's icon and select Properties. Then select the Details tab. In the drop-down menu under "Print to the following port", select File: (Creates a file on disk) .
   2. Click OK, and OK again.
   
   
4. Using your application, print the file to the PostScript printer, and enter the name of the PostScript output file.

Windows 3.x
