The 80386SX Intel processor has a 16-bit external bus and a 24-bit address bus. The 80386DX Intel processor has a 32-bit external bus and a 32-bit address bus.

Memory access is faster with the DX Intel processor. The SX takes two fetches to get a piece of memory, whereas the DX takes only one fetch. Also, the SX is limited to 16MB of addressable memory, while the DX may have as much as 4GB.
