In Elm, can I change incoming messages to show senders' usernames rather than their personal or full names?

Note: Elm is not available on any UITS systems.

Note: The software discussed here is no longer in common use at Indiana University, and UITS may no longer be able to verify the document's accuracy. The UITS Support Center may no longer have the manuals and other materials required to support this software adequately.

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to change incoming messages in Elm to show senders' usernames rather than their personal or full names. Syd Weinstein, the Elm coordinator, states:

"no one thought it worth it enough to write a mod for it. (including all the doc's etc. and making it easily configurable, etc.)"

Elm normally displays the full name associated with message senders, for example: N 1 Sep 24 Skinny Puppy (22) ants in space O 2 Sep 24 Do Da Do Da (31) my robot ate my modem Some users would prefer a behavior where only the username is shown: N 1 Sep 24 jdoe (22) ants in space O 2 Sep 24 bbixby (31) my robot ate my modem You can, however, view the full header of a single message, including the username. To do so, highlight the message using the up or down arrow key and press  h .
