ARCHIVED: How do I disable images in my web browser?
Images on a web page often make the page load more slowly, especially if you have a relatively slow connection (e.g., a dial-up connection). To decrease the time it takes to load a page by preventing images from loading, follow the appropriate steps below.
On this page:
Chrome
- In the upper right, open the
Customize and control Google Chromemenu by clicking the three horizontal bars. SelectSettings.
- Click the
Show advanced settings...link, and then, under "Privacy", clickContent settings....
- Under the "Images" heading, select
Do not show any images.
- Click
OK, and then close theSettingstab. If necessary, reopen Chrome to continue browsing.
Firefox
- In Windows, from the
Toolsmenu, selectOptions....On a Mac, from the
Firefoxmenu, selectPreferences....If the menu bar is hidden, press
Altto make it visible. - At the top of the window, click
Content.
- Uncheck
Load ImagesorLoad images automatically.
- In Windows, click
OK.
Internet Explorer
In Internet Explorer 5.x or later for Windows:
- From the
Toolsmenu, selectInternet Options....If the menu bar is hidden, press
Altto make it visible. - In the window that appears, select the
Advancedtab.
- Scroll down the list to "Multimedia", and uncheck
Show Pictures.
- Click
OK.
Safari
- From the
Safarimenu, selectPreferences....
- At the top of the window that appears, click
Appearance.
- Uncheck
Display images when the page opens.
