ARCHIVED: In Mac OS, how are CDs usually formatted?
Note: This document does not apply to Mac OS X.
In Mac OS, many CDs are formatted in High Sierra or ISO-9660 formats, but neither can properly store the Mac OS resource forks or file information. Therefore, most CDs for Mac OS use Apple's HFS or HFS+ formats to store programs and data. Apple's CD driver software contains extensions used for mounting High Sierra and ISO-9660 formats.
