At IUB, in which domain should I create an account for my Windows 2000 or XP workstation?

Unless you are in a department that has its own domain, you should create an account in the ADS domain for your Windows 2000 or XP workstation at Indiana University Bloomington. By doing so, you enable other users in the ADS domain to see your computer on the network. Check with your department's computing support provider to find out whether your department has its own domain.

For information on adding your Windows 2000 or XP workstation to the ADS domain, see In ADS at IU, how do I add a Windows 2000, XP Professional, or 2003 computer to my organizational unit?

Be sure to use the standard naming convention when joining your workstation to the ADS domain. For more information, see At IU, what naming conventions does UITS recommend for Windows computers and groups?

In order to create a workstation account in the ADS domain, you must have a valid ADS domain username and password. For more information, see At IU, what is my Active Directory Services (ADS) domain account?

This is document adhl in domain all.
