ARCHIVED: In Windows, how do I view hidden files?

Many of the Windows system files are hidden by default. To view these files, follow the instructions for your version of Windows:
Windows 8
- In File Explorer, open a new window. (If your keyboard has a
Windows logo key, press
Win-e
.) - From the tab, click .
- From the tab, select , and then click .
When you open any folder on your hard drive, you will now see all of the files, including the hidden ones.
Windows 7, Vista, or XP
- From the desktop or the Windows 7 or Vista, or in Windows XP. menu, select in
