In Windows, how do I decompress a .gz file?
In Windows, you need file decompression software to decompress a file
ending with the .gz extension. UITS has
tested and recommends 7-zip, available free from IUware for
Indiana University students, faculty, and staff. UITS does not attest
to the suitability, compatibility, stability, or usability of other
programs.
Microsoft recommends some compression
utilities that will work with .gz files at
Windows File Association; some are commercial programs and require
purchase. Other utilities available include StuffIt,
PowerArchiver, and WinRAR.
