ARCHIVED: On my LISTSERV list, how do I get a list of current subscribers?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Note: IU retired its LISTSERV system in spring 2012, replacing it with IU List, a new mailing list service. See About IU List

To see the subscribers to your LISTSERV list, you can use email to send a command to the LISTSERV server. Or, if you are a list owner at Indiana University, you can use IU's LISTSERV web interface.

Using LISTSERV commands via email

To see the subscribers for your LISTSERV list, send the following command in the body (not the subject line) of a message to the LISTSERV server, replacing listname with the name of your list:

  REVIEW listname

Note: For Indiana University LISTSERV mailing lists, send all commands to the appropriate address for your list:

  Campus Server address
  IU Bloomington listserv@indiana.edu
  IUPUI listserv@iupui.edu
  IU Kokomo listserv@iuk.edu
  IU Northwest listserv@iun.edu
  IU South Bend listserv@iusb.edu
  IU Southeast listserv@ius.edu

Never send commands to the address of the mailing list (e.g., to listname@indiana.edu). Send only messages intended for members of the list to the list's address.

The owner of the list may use the Review keyword in the list header to restrict who can view the email addresses and names of the subscribers; see ARCHIVED: On my LISTSERV list, what security settings are available?

To see your subscription list if you have concealed subscribers, use the following command, replacing listname with the name of your list:

  GET listname (NOLOCK

Note: Only list owners may use the command above.

The lack of a closing parenthesis in the command above is necessary. Additionally, you must use the (NOLOCK option in order to keep your list available for other commands.

Using IU's LISTSERV web interface

For IU LISTSERV lists, visit the menu for your campus:

Log in using your IU email address and LISTSERV password. From the List Management menu at the top, select List Dashboard. Under "List Name", find the list you wish to manage, and next to the list name, click View. If you do not have a LISTSERV personal password, see ARCHIVED: In LISTSERV, how do I set or change a personal password?
