In Microsoft Outlook 2003 and earlier for Windows, how do I turn Wordmail on or off?

If Wordmail is enabled, Outlook for Windows will use Microsoft Word as the default editor when sending email. Wordmail is enabled by default in Outlook 2002 and 2003.

Note: Word may format email messages you forward so that characters wrap around to the next line. If this happens to you, you may want to discontinue using Word as your email editor.

To turn Wordmail on or off in Outlook 2003 or earlier for Windows:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Options... .

  2. In the Options dialog box, click the Mail Format tab.

  3. To turn Wordmail on, under "Message format", check Use Microsoft Word to edit email. Click OK.

To turn Wordmail off, under "Message format", uncheck Use Microsoft Word to edit email. In Outlook 2002 and 2003, also uncheck Use Microsoft Word to edit Rich Text email messages. Click OK.
