ARCHIVED: What is trn, and where can I get more information about it?

The program trn is a Usenet newsreader for Unix. It is a text-based, non-graphical browser usable within a Unix shell session. In these regards it is similar to the tin newsreader.

The trn newsreader is based on the older program rn, which stands for "read news", but unlike rn, trn can thread newsgroups. Threading organizes a newsgroup's articles so that each reply is linked to the article it responds to; most modern newsreading software does this automatically. While you read news articles in trn, the thread of the current article is shown as a kind of tree structure in the upper right corner of the screen.

You may download trn from:

  http://trn.sourceforge.net/

To view the online manual page, enter the following at the Unix prompt:

  man trn
