ARCHIVED: How do I subscribe to a LISTSERV mailing list?
To subscribe to a LISTSERV list, send an email message to
listserv@hostname. Replace "hostname"
with the Internet address of the computer hosting the LISTSERV list.
For example, all IUB LISTSERV mailing
lists are available on indiana.edu.
Leave the subject line of the message blank and put the following command in the body of the message:
SUBSCRIBE listname Replace "listname" with the name of the list you'd like
to join.
For example, to subscribe to a list called NT-DEMO-L hosted at
Indiana University, you would send an email message to
listserv@indiana.edu that contains the line:
If the LISTSERV list you are trying to subscribe to is not found at
the "hostname" you specified on the To:
line of your mail message, LISTSERV will forward your request to the
address listserv@peace.ease.lsoft.com. LISTSERV will
automatically try to locate the server where the list resides and
subsequently forward your request to the proper host. If LISTSERV
cannot find the list, it will send you back a message informing you
that it was unable to deliver your request.
Note: Be sure to delete or disable any signature files that your mail program attaches to your outgoing mail. LISTSERV will attempt to interpret these lines as commands, resulting in rejection of your subscription request.
