ARCHIVED: In Mac OS, how do I encode a file in BinHex format?
Note: This document does not apply to Mac OS X; modern Internet applications have BinHex encoding functionality built in.
In Mac OS, you can set some applications, such as Fetch or Eudora, to encode in BinHex format when you upload a file or send a message. The compression program StuffIt Deluxe can also encode in BinHex format. StuffIt Deluxe is a commercial application available from Smith Micro. A freeware alternative to StuffIt Deluxe is DropBin, which is available from most Mac OS software archives. DropBin is not Mac OS X native, but it will run in the Classic environment. See For Mac OS X, where can I download freeware, shareware, commercial software, and software updates?
