When I log into my IU email account, what should I do if I get the error message "Client's entry in database has expired while getting initial credentials" or "Account Disabled: see account administrator"?

When you log into your Indiana University email account, you may receive either of the following error messages:

"Client's entry in database has expired while getting initial credentials"
"Account Disabled: see account administrator"

These errors indicate that your accounts have been disabled. University regulations require that access to UITS computing resources be limited to current students, faculty, and staff. UITS Accounts Administration performs biannual disabling of accounts belonging to unregistered students, and disables those of staff and faculty members upon resignation or termination. If you fall into any of these categories, you may still have a valid need for UITS resources, in which case UITS will work with you to keep your current access from being interrupted.

If you are not presently registered as a student, but are still completing course work, ask a faculty member or advisor to submit an Affiliate form on your behalf. For more, see Information about sponsored computing accounts for IU affiliates.

If you feel that the information about your university status may be in error, contact the accounts administrator for your campus:

  • Bloomington, East, Northwest, or South Bend: Email  valid@indiana.edu .
  • IUPUI, IUPU Columbus, Kokomo, or Southeast: Email  actadmin@iupui.edu .

For students, data regarding status at IU comes from the Office of the Registrar. For faculty and staff, the data comes from the Human Resources office.

If you are no longer a registered student or affiliated with the university as a staff or faculty member, and UITS does not receive a request for continued access, UITS will disable your accounts. When your accounts are disabled, your computer access will be invalidated on all UITS computing systems (i.e., the network, email systems, and research computers). Before your accounts are disabled, copy and back up valuable information from your accounts. For information about copying or downloading files (including email messages), see the menu on file transfers or contact your campus Support Center.
