ARCHIVED: For Mac OS, what are SimpleText and TeachText?

Note: This document does not apply to Mac OS X. In Mac OS X, SimpleText has been replaced by the application TextEdit.

SimpleText, formerly called TeachText, is an Apple program that displays application documentation. Mac OS installation software and other software packages often include it. You can download SimpleText from the Pure Mac web site at: http://www.eskimo.com/~pristine/textword.html SimpleText can display stylized text, PICT images, System 7 sounds, and, with the proper software installed, QuickTime movies and QuickDraw 3D documents. You can use it as a text editor to create both ASCII text and stylized text files, but it is limited to documents of no more than 32KB. On properly equipped Mac OS computers, SimpleText can also record sounds as well as use text-to-speech software to read the contents of a document aloud.
