In Windows 7, Vista, or XP, how do I remove program icons from the Start menu?

Notes: This document explains how to remove shortcuts, not the programs themselves. To remove the programs themselves, see In Windows, how do I uninstall programs? Also, before removing shortcuts to a program, be sure that you know how to access it by other means.

To remove program icons from the Start menu in Windows 7, Vista, or XP:

  1. From the Start menu, click All Programs in Windows 7 or Vista, or Programs in Windows XP.

  2. Right-click the item you wish to remove, and then click Delete.
