OSR2 (OEM Service Release 2) was a service release of Windows 95 that Microsoft released in early 1997. It was not available for general retail, but was only available with the purchase of a new computer or hard drive.

OSR2 incorporated bug fixes distributed in Service Pack 1, and a number of other patches and fixes available on Microsoft's web site. It also included a new file system (FAT32), an updated Windows Messaging application, an updated Dial-up Networking, Internet Explorer 3, and Personal Web Server.

To find out if you are running OSR2, right-click My Computer and select Properties. Under the General tab, if you have OSR2, you will see one of the following:

  4.00.950B

  4.00.950.1111

Alternatively, at a DOS prompt enter:

  ver

If you have OSR2, you will get the following response:

  Windows 95. [Version 4.00.1111]
