In Pine, how do I display and send the full headers of an email message?
Note: Pine is not available on any central UITS systems. UITS does not support the use of Pine at Indiana University.
Note: The software discussed here is no longer in common use at Indiana University, and UITS may no longer be able to verify the document's accuracy. The UITS Support Center may no longer have the manuals and other materials required to support this software adequately.
Displaying full headers
To enable full headers in Pine, while viewing a
message, press h . To turn off full headers,
press h again. If this doesn't work, you must
activate the "enable-full-header-cmd" feature, as described below:
- At Pine's Main Menu, press
sfor Setup, and thencfor Config.
- Select the entry "feature-list=" at the bottom; it has a
submenu of checkboxes for various settings.
- Move down this submenu to the entry "enable-full-header-cmd", and
select it by pressing
x.
- To return to the Pine Main Menu after making this change, press
e.
- When asked if you want to commit your changes, press
y.
Sending full headers
The easiest way to send the full headers is to forward the message with full headers visible:
- With full headers turned on, type
fto forward the message.
- Pine will ask if you wish to forward the message as an attachment.
If you enter
yes, the message (with all its headers) will be included as an attachment. If you enterno, the message and headers will be included in the message text.
