ARCHIVED: On a laptop, how do I type keys assigned to an extended keypad (number keypad) if my laptop doesn't have a keypad?

Almost all laptops without separate numeric keypads (or without number keys at the top) have a key labelled something like Fn (for function) near the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys. This Fn key is usually labelled using a contrasting color from the rest of the keyboard. Pressing the Fn key makes keys near the right side of the keyboard (which usually have extra function labels in the same contrasting color as the Fn key, on the front edges of the keys) act like a numeric keypad.

To use equivalent keys to Alt-numeric keypad keys, you have to hold down the Fn and Alt keys, and then type in your numbers (i.e., the ones listed on the front of the embedded keyboard, not the ones across the top of the keyboard).

Note: Depending on the manufacturer, if may be possible to get the desired effect by holding down either Alt or Fn, instead of both.
