ARCHIVED: In Pine, how do I control whether the text of a message I'm replying to is automatically included in the reply?

Note: Pine is not available on any central UITS systems. UITS does not support the use of Pine at Indiana University.

Note: The software discussed here is no longer in common use at IU, and UITS may no longer be able to verify this text's accuracy; additionally, the UITS Support Center may no longer have the materials needed to adequately support this software.

Whether or not Pine includes the text of messages in replies is controlled by the "include-text-in-reply" feature. When this feature is activated, Pine automatically includes the text of messages in replies. When this feature is turned off, Pine will ask whether you wish to include the text in your reply. To turn this feature on or off:

  1. From the Main Menu in Pine, press  s  for Setup, and then  c  for Config.

  2. At the Setup Configuration menu, press  w  for WhereIs, and then enter: include-t
  3. You should be taken to the "include-text-in-reply" line. If there is an "X" in the box in the left column, then "include-text-in-reply" is activated. Otherwise, it is turned off. To turn this feature on or off, press  x .

  4. Press  e  to exit the Setup Configuration menu, and  y  to save your changes.
