ARCHIVED: In Pine, how can I update or refresh my .pinerc configuration file?

Note: Pine is not available on any central UITS systems. UITS does not support the use of Pine at Indiana University.

To update or refresh your .pinerc file, at the Unix prompt, enter:

pine -pinerc new_pinerc_filename

Replace new_pinerc_filename with a name for your fresh .pinerc file. This will place a fresh copy of your .pinerc configuration information into the file new_pinerc_filename, and will set the options you are using. Your fresh copy will also have fresh comments, and everything in the Config screen and the .pinerc file should match. Old variables that are no longer being used will disappear.

If, in the future, you want to edit your .pinerc file, but don't want to be confused by obsolete comments, run the following command:

pine -pinerc .pinerc

Caution: This will overwrite your existing .pinerc file.

Note: Much of this information comes from the Pine FAQ.
