ARCHIVED: What is a Performa, and how is it different from a Macintosh?
Apple Computer introduced the Performa line of consumer model Mac OS computers in 1992. They were cheaper, less expandable, and had more bundled software than comparable Education/Professional models (i.e., the Macintosh and, later, Power Macintosh lines). Apple discontinued the Performas in 1997.
Performas, like Macintoshes, Power Macintoshes, PowerBooks, and Macintosh clones, run the Macintosh Operating System. None of them will run Mac OS X.
