In Microsoft Word, how can I save documents in an older Word format?

In Word 2007, to save a file in an older Word format:

  1. Open the file in Word.

  2. From the Office Button menu, select Save As... and select Word 97-2003 Document for older versions of Word.

In Word 97, 98, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, v.X, 2004, or 2008, to save a file in an older Word format:

  1. Open the file in Word, and from the File menu, select Save As... .

  2. In the "Save As Type:", "Save File as Type:", or "Format:" field, choose the older format you want to use (e.g., Word 6.0/95). Click OK or Save.
