ARCHIVED: Using Hummingbird FTP, how do I transfer files between computers?

Note: You need to use a client that supports secure FTP to transfer files to and from Indiana University's central systems. For more, see At IU, what SSH/SFTP clients are supported and where can I get them?

To transfer files between computers using Hummingbird FTP, follow these steps:

  1. From the Start menu, select Programs, then Communications Software 3.x, then FTP.

  2. When the window opens, select Connection, then Open.

  3. In the dialog box that opens, type the name of the FTP host, your username, and your password. You probably don't need to change any of the other fields.

  4. Click Open. You should now see two windows, one that represents the remote computer and one that represents your desktop computer's hard drive.

  5. To make both windows appear without overlapping, from the Window menu, select Tile Horizontally.

  6. To transfer files between computers, drag them from one window to the other. You can also switch to another folder on either computer by double-clicking the folder icons in the left pane of each window.
