ARCHIVED: Using Hummingbird FTP, how do I transfer files between computers?
Note: You need to use a client that supports secure FTP to transfer files to and from Indiana University's central systems. For more, see At IU, what SSH/SFTP clients are supported and where can I get them?
To transfer files between computers using Hummingbird FTP, follow these steps:
- From the
Startmenu, selectPrograms, thenCommunications Software 3.x, thenFTP.
- When the window opens, select
Connection, thenOpen.
- In the dialog box that opens, type the name of the FTP host, your
username, and your password. You probably don't need to change any of
the other fields.
- Click
Open. You should now see two windows, one that represents the remote computer and one that represents your desktop computer's hard drive.
- To make both windows appear without overlapping, from the
Windowmenu, selectTile Horizontally.
- To transfer files between computers, drag them from one window to the other. You can also switch to another folder on either computer by double-clicking the folder icons in the left pane of each window.
