ARCHIVED: Using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus for Windows, how do I scan network drives for viruses?

Check the software help for instructions.

Regardless of which antivirus product you use, you will need to map a network drive before scanning it for viruses; see Map a drive (access a shared resource) at IU Once you have mapped the network drive, follow the appropriate instructions below.

Symantec Endpoint Protection

Right-click the icon for the desired network drive and choose Scan for Viruses....

Note: This method of scanning network drives is available for most Symantec/Norton products, but you can use the following directions for an alternative way of performing this process.

Symantec/Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition

  1. From the Start menu, select Programs or All Programs, then Symantec Client Security or Symantec/Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition, and then Symantec AntiVirus Client or Symantec/Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition.

    Alternatively, in the notification area of the Taskbar (typically on the lower right of your screen), right-click the Symantec/Norton AntiVirus icon (a shield) and select Open Symantec/Norton AntiVirus....

  2. From the Scan menu, select either Scan Computer or Custom Scan.
  3. Select the appropriate drives and click Scan.
