ARCHIVED: In Windows 95, 98, and Me, how do I change the DNS and WINS server IP numbers?

To change your DNS and WINS server IP numbers in Windows 95, 98, and Me, follow these steps:
- From the
Startmenu, chooseSettings, thenControl Panel. Double-clickNetwork.
- In the box labeled "The following network components are
installed:", from the installed components selection box, select
TCP/IP. ClickProperties.
- Click the
DNS Configurationtab, and verify that the "Domain:" field is not empty, and that the domain name is correct (e.g.,ADS).
- Delete any old addresses by selecting them and clicking
Remove.
- Under "DNS Server Search Order", click
Addand enter the new addresses. You will need to clickAddafter each entry.At IUB, use the following numbers:
129.79.1.1 129.79.5.100 129.79.8.50At IUPUI, use:
134.68.1.9 134.68.1.2 - Under "Domain Suffix Search Order", click
Addand enter each necessary domain suffix which is not already entered. You will need to clickAddafter each entry. At IUB, this list should include:At IUB, this list should include:
indiana.edu iu.edu ads.iu.eduAt IUPUI, include:
uits.iupui.edu iupui.edu indiana.edu iu.edu ads.iu.edu - Click the
WINS Configurationtab, and delete any old addresses by selecting them and clickingRemove.
- Under "WINS Server Search Order", click
Addand enter the new addresses. You will need to clickAddafter each entry.At IUB, the WINS servers are:
129.79.1.200 129.79.5.200 134.68.220.14At IUPUI, the WINS servers are:
134.68.220.14 134.68.220.15 129.79.1.200 - Click
OKtwice to save the settings. You will have to restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
