In Pine, how do I use the Lcc header and what does it do?
Note: Pine is not available on any central UITS systems. UITS does not support the use of Pine at Indiana University.
Note: The software discussed here is no longer in common use at Indiana University, and UITS may no longer be able to verify the document's accuracy. The UITS Support Center may no longer have the manuals and other materials required to support this software adequately.
The Lcc header is normally available when you select rich headers
by pressing Ctrl-r while composing the headers of an email
message. It is similar to blind carbon copy (Bcc) in that it hides
the usernames of the message's recipients. However, Lcc was designed
to work with the Pine Address Book. If you put the
nickname of a Pine distribution list in the "Lcc:" header
field, its full name will appear in the "To:" field. None
of the recipients' usernames will appear in any headers.
For example, suppose you have a Pine distribution list with a nickname of
sith and a full name of Dark Lords of the Sith that
has the following recipients: palpatine@empire.gov,
exarkun@massassi.net, darthmaul@sithlord.org, and
dvader@executor.navy.mil. If you compose a message in Pine and
enter sith into the "Lcc:" field, your headers will
look something like the following:
If you sent a message to this list, however, the recipients would see only "Dark Lords of the Sith: ;" in the "To:" line; they would not see the addresses of the other recipients.
For more information about the Lcc header, while your cursor is on the
"Lcc:" header line, press Ctrl-g .
