In Windows 7, Vista, or XP, how do I change the power management settings?
Your power management settings control when your screen goes blank or your computer goes to sleep automatically. To change power management settings in Windows 7, Vista, or XP:

Windows 7 and Vista
- From the
Startmenu, selectControl Panel. Then choosePower Options.
- From the list in the left pane, click
Choose when to turn off the displayorChange when the computer sleeps.
- Set your options. For each action, "Turn off the display:" and
"Put the computer to sleep:", you can select times ranging from
1 minutetoNever.
- Click
Save changes.
Windows XP
- From the
Startmenu, selectSettings, and thenControl Panel.
- Double-click
Power ManagementorPower Options.
- From the drop-down menu next to "Turn off monitor:", select a time
