In Microsoft Word, how do I make notecards or nametags?

You can make notecards or nametags in Microsoft Word using the Envelopes and Labels function. To do so:

  1. From the Tools menu, or the Mailings tab, select the appropriate option, as follows:

    • In Word 2007, select Labels.
    • In Word 2002 or 2003, select Letters and Mailings, and then Envelopes and Labels... .
    • In Word 2001, v.X, 2004, or 2008, select Labels... .
    • In Word 97, 98, or 2000, select Envelopes and Labels... .

  2. In Word 97, 98, 2000, 2002, 2003, or 2007, click the Labels tab, and then click Options... . In Word 2001, v.X, 2004, or 2008, click Options... .

  3. From the menu next to "Label products:", or "Label vendors", choose the brand of your labels. Then, in the "Product number:" field, choose the label you need, for example:

    • 5315 for notecards
    • 5362 for nametags or badges

Note: If you wish to change margins or other settings, click New Label... . Enter a name for your custom label, and change the settings to your specifications. After you click OK, Word will show your label name in the "Product number:" field.

  4. Click OK to save your settings.

If you wish to print only one nametag or notecard:

  • In Word 97, 98, 2000, 2002, 2003, or 2007, click the Labels tab. Under "Address:", type your text. Then, under "Print", select Single label. Click Print.

  • In Word 2001, v.X, 2004, or 2008, from the Tools menu, select Labels... . Under "Address:", type your text. Then, under "Number of Labels", select the radio button next to Single label, and if necessary, select the appropriate row and column. Click Print... .

To create a page of nametags or notecards, in Word 97, 98, 2000, 2002, 2003, or 2007, under "Print", select Full page of the same label, and then click New Document. In Word 2001, v.X, 2004, or 2008, under "Number of Labels", select Full page of the same label, and then click Data Merge... .
