How do I configure the IU PPP Wizard to use a calling card?
Many faculty and staff members are issued calling cards to use to connect to the Indiana University computing environment. These calling cards are simpler to bill than the long distance charges associated with normal calling. The IU PPP Wizard, which is distributed through IUware, has the ability to use a calling card number to dial up to the IU servers.
To configure the Wizard to use a calling card:
- Double-click the
Connect to IUicon.
- Click either the
Settingsor thePropertiesbutton (depending upon your particular configuration).
- Click the
Dialing Propertiesor theDialing Rulesbutton.
Note: If for some reason theDialing PropertiesorDialing Rulesbutton is not available (i.e., it is grayed out), click thePhone Bookbutton and make sure you have selected the correct phone number. If that doesn't help, go to theModemcontrol panel, click theDialing Propertiesbutton, and make sure the area code is correct for your current location.
- Click the checkbox next to
For long distance calls, use this calling card:.
- You must now create a new calling card entry. To do this, click
Calling Card.
- In the
Calling Cardwindow, clickNew. Enter a name for your calling card entry and clickOK. Next, click the drop-down menu to the left of theNewbutton, and select the entry you just created.
- Enter your PIN and access numbers in the appropriate spaces. If you do
not know these numbers, contact your department's local
support provider or the person who issued the calling card.
- If your calling card requires a specific sequence, click
Long Distance or Internationaland enter the sequences. If you do not know these sequences, contact your department's local support provider or the person who issued the calling card.
- Click
OK. Select your new calling card entry from the drop-down menu to the left of theCalling Cardbutton. ClickOKand test the entry.
Calling card configuration can be complex. You may require the assistance of your department's local support provider to configure some settings.
