In Windows 98, how do I use the built-in tutorial?
Note: UITS recommends that you use a current version of Windows on computers connected to the Indiana University network. For more information, see For Windows computers on the IU network, why does UITS recommend Windows 2000, XP Professional, or Vista Enterprise or Ultimate? Security features on the IU network prevent Windows 95, 98, 98SE, and Me computers from authenticating to ADS, printing to some network printers in departments and campus housing, and mapping drives to other computers.
Windows 98 includes a built-in tutorial, which starts out at a basic level, with information on using the mouse and keyboard. The tutorial goes on to compare the Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 operating systems to the new features in Windows 98.
An easy way to access the tutorial is to follow the steps below:
- Click the
Startbutton and, from the menu that appears, selectRun....
- In the dialog box that appears, enter: welcome
- When the welcome screen appears, click the
Discover Windows 98button.
The Welcome program also contains information about accessing the Internet and keeping your computer healthy by running built-in programs such as ScanDisk and Defrag.
If you don't have this program on your computer, follow the steps below to copy the files from the Windows 98 CD-ROM:
- Put the Windows 98 CD-ROM in your CD tray.
- Find the Windows 98 folder on the CD-ROM. (For help with finding
folders, see the Knowledge Base document In Windows, how do I locate a file if I know its name or its contents?)
- Double-click the
win98folder.
- Right-click the
Tourfolder and, from the menu that appears, chooseCopy.
- On your local drive (usually the
C:\drive), go to theWindowsdirectory. Right-click a blank space and, from the menu that appears, choosePaste. This will copy theTourfiles from the CD-ROM to your local drive.
Note: For more information about how to copy a
folder, click the Start button, then click
Help. Click the Index tab, and then enter:
copying
Double-click the copying files, folders topic, and then
double-click the To copy a file or folder topic.
