What is POTS?
POTS is an acronym for plain old telephone service. It refers to the standard telephone service that most homes and many small businesses use. The POTS network is also called the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
In contrast, telephone services based on high-speed, digital communication lines, such as ISDN, T-1, and T-3, are not POTS. The main distinctions between POTS and non-POTS services are speed and bandwidth. POTS is generally restricted to about 52Kbps.
