ARCHIVED: Using Norton AntiVirus for Mac OS or Mac OS X, how do I immediately scan a file, folder, or drive for viruses?

If you have a suspicious file, folder, or drive, you can use Norton AntiVirus for Mac OS or Mac OS X to scan it for viruses without scanning the entire computer. To scan a file, folder, or drive using Norton AntiVirus 7, 8, or 9 for Mac OS 8.x or 9.x or Mac OS X:

  1. Open Norton AntiVirus:
    • In Mac OS X, open your computer's hard drive, then the Applications folder, and then Norton AntiVirus.
    • In Mac OS 8.x or 9.x, from the Apple menu, select Control Panels, and then Norton AntiVirus.

  2. In the Norton AntiVirus window, click the File View tab to scan a file or folder, or the Disk View tab to scan a drive, disk, or volume.
  3. In File View, use the triangles to open and close drives and folders until you find the item you want to scan. Click the item to select it. To select several items, press the Cmd key as you click each.
  4. Click Scan/Repair.

Norton AntiVirus will display the results of the scan. Click Print to print the results, or Done to return to the previous window.
