ARCHIVED: In Windows, how do I display the Log Off icon and other items in the Start menu?
In Windows, you can add the Log Off icon to the
Start menu by changing the Start menu settings.
Windows 7
Windows 7 does not have a Classic Start menu option. However, you
can change the function of the power button so it behaves as a Log
Off button:
- Right-click the
Startmenu and chooseProperties....
- From the drop-down menu next to "Power button action", select
Log off. ClickOK.
Windows Vista and XP
By default, Windows XP displays the Log Off icon in the
Start menu, but that disappears if you select the Classic
Start menu option in the Taskbar and Start Menu
Properties. To make the Log Off icon reappear if you
have enabled that setting or are running Windows Vista:
- Right-click the
Startmenu and chooseProperties....
- In Vista, select
Classic Start menu. In XP, clickCustomize...next toClassic Start menu.Note: If the
Customize...button next toClassic Start menuis grayed out, then you are currently in the normal, default Taskbar theme, and theLog Officon should already appear. If this is the case, you don't need to follow any of these instructions. - Check
Display Log Off.
- Click
OKtwice. The Log Off icon will now be visible, and will read "Log off(your username)...".
