ARCHIVED: Get a public folder using Microsoft Outlook at IU

Note:
UITS highly recommends using resource rooms rather than public folders, as resource rooms have additional and more flexible functionality and are more easily managed by departments. If your department needs a resource room, a registered IT Pro can contact UITS Support Center Tier 2 to request one.
At Indiana University, to get a public folder in Microsoft Outlook:
- Open the Outlook Folder List:
In Outlook 2016, press
Ctrl-6
or click the icon at the bottom of the navigation pane.In Outlook 2013, press
Ctrl-6
.In Outlook 2010, press
Ctrl-6
or click the icon at the bottom of the navigation pane. - Near the bottom of the Folder List, find the folder named
Public Folders
. - If it isn't already expanded, expand this folder by clicking the
All Public Folders
, and then theDepartments
folder.
(plus sign) to the left. Next, expand the folder named - You will see the top-level departmental public folders. If your school or department has a folder here, you will probably want to create a subfolder of that folder. To find out whom to contact about creating this subfolder:
- Right-click the folder for your school or department and select .
- In the resulting "Exchange Properties" box, select the tab.
- At the top of the window, you should see a list of folder contacts (sometimes the list will contain only one email address). Send email to someone from this list to request a public folder.
- If your department does not have a top-level departmental folder, a registered IT Pro can contact UITS Support Center Tier 2 (requires authentication) to request one.
