ARCHIVED: In Mac OS 9, how do I add file servers to the Keychain?
Note: If you are using Mac OS X, see ARCHIVED: In Mac OS X, how do I store file server passwords in my Keychain?
If you have Mac OS 9 on your computer, you can use the Keychain feature to store passwords for file servers:
- From the Apple menu, select
Chooser.
- In the
Chooserwindow, selectAppleShare.
- For file servers on the Internet, click
Server IP Address..., and in the box that appears, enter the address of the server. ClickConnect. For servers on an AppleTalk network, select the zone if there is one, and then on the right, double-click the name of the server.
- Enter your username and password on the server, and then check the
box next to
Add to Keychain.
- Click
Connect.
If you access the same file servers often, make an alias of the server
while you have it mounted on the desktop. To do this, highlight the
server's icon and press Cmd-m .
Thereafter, if the Keychain is unlocked, the alias will provide
immediate access to the file server.
Note: AppleTalk and IPX routing are no longer available on the Indiana University network.
