ARCHIVED: What do I need to know about accessing NETg from the Knowledge Base?

NETg is technology-based training focusing on information technology. By following a link from the Knowledge Base to a NETg course, you enter NETg's SkillVantage Manager, which launches Web Player 2.x.

You must be an Indiana University faculty, staff, or student to take advantage of NETg courseware. To view NETg courses, your browser must have Java and JavaScript enabled, and it must accept cookies. For more detailed information, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: At IU, where can I learn about self-study courses from IT Training?.

Navigating NETg

Clicking a NETg course title in a Knowledge Base document takes you to the Web Player course menu. To take the course from the beginning, highlight the title next to Unit 1, and then click Start This Item.

Note: Unit 0 explains the Web Player interface, and provides an overview of the course.

  • To move forward through a course, click the forward arrow (a single arrow pointing to the right) on the navigation bar located in the lower right corner of the Web Player window.

  • To return to the menu, click Menu.

  • To exit the course, click Exit.

Note: Wait until NETg finishes uploading your progress to the server before you close the browser window.

Setting your preferences

If you can't read the text of the course, or you want to disable the audio, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: In NETg Online, how do I set my preferences?

Accessing courses from the NETg web server

When you follow a link from the Knowledge Base to NETg courses, several things happen. First, you will have to authenticate to the NETg server using your IU Network ID. After you have done that, a second browser window opens from which Web Player 2.x is launched. This sequence opens up a record in SkillVantage Manager on the NETg web server and automatically adds this course to your custom curriculum. Once the course is added to your custom curriculum, you can return to the course through SkillVantage Manager and take other units, lessons, or topics within that course. You can log into the NETg web server at: http://netg.iu.edu/svmweb.htm For information about adding other courses, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: In NETg's Web SkillVantage Manager, how do I add a course?
