To connect to the IUB campus housing network, must I remove my computer's static IP address?

If your computer is configured to use a static IP address for Ethernet, you will not be able to register your computer for use in Indiana University Bloomington campus housing. You must remove the static IP address.

It's not uncommon for computer companies to ship a computer with a static IP address that was used to set up the system before it was shipped. Specifically, many new Hewlett-Packard computers have a static IP address.

The UITS Get Connected software automatically configures TCP/IP to use DHCP to obtain an IP address. However, if you need to set up your computer manually, you must configure TCP/IP to obtain an IP address using DHCP. (If you think you'll need the static IP address that was assigned to your computer, write it down before configuring your computer to use DHCP.)

For more information about configuring your computer manually, see the following:

If your computer still cannot access the network, call the UITS Support Center at 812-855-6789.
