To automatically obtain an IP address, you must be connected to a network that has a DHCP server. The instructions depend on what version of the operating system you have and what network software you are using.
Note: These instructions assume you are using Open Transport (required in Mac OS 7.6 and later).
- From the Apple menu, select
Control Panelsand then chooseTCP/IP.
- Next to "Connect via:", select
EthernetorEthernet built-in.
- Next to "Configure:", select
Using DHCP Server.
- Under "Search domains:" or "Additional search domains:", enter the suffixes of domains you frequently access. At IUB, enter the following: ucs.indiana.edu indiana.edu iu.edu iub.edu uits.indiana.edu At IUPUI, enter the following: iupui.edu iu.edu
- Click
Options, selectActive, and close theTCP/IP Optionswindow.
- Close the
TCP/IPcontrol panel, and save your changes. You can immediately use your new settings.
