ARCHIVED: In Mac OS, how do I configure my computer to obtain an IP address automatically so I can connect to the IUB or IUPUI campus network?

Note: For information on how to configure your Mac OS X computer, see In Mac OS X, how do I configure my computer to obtain an IP address automatically so I can connect to the IUB or IUPUI campus network?

To automatically obtain an IP address, you must be connected to a network that has a DHCP server. The instructions depend on what version of the operating system you have and what network software you are using.

Note: These instructions assume you are using Open Transport (required in Mac OS 7.6 and later).

  1. From the Apple menu, select Control Panels and then choose TCP/IP.

  2. Next to "Connect via:", select Ethernet or Ethernet built-in.

  3. Next to "Configure:", select Using DHCP Server.

  4. Under "Search domains:" or "Additional search domains:", enter the suffixes of domains you frequently access. At IUB, enter the following: ucs.indiana.edu indiana.edu iu.edu iub.edu uits.indiana.edu At IUPUI, enter the following: iupui.edu iu.edu
  5. Click Options, select Active, and close the TCP/IP Options window.

  6. Close the TCP/IP control panel, and save your changes. You can immediately use your new settings.
