At IU, using Outlook 2011 or Entourage 2008 for Mac OS X, how do I store my sent items on the mailbox server?

At Indiana University, to use Outlook 2011 or Entourage to save your sent items on the server where your mailbox is located, you must use the IMAP protocol.

The instructions below apply if you are using Entourage 2008 to access your account with IMAP. If you are connecting to an Exchange account, see:

Outlook 2011

  1. From the Tool menu, select Accounts... .

  2. In the Accounts window, double-click the name of your account. Click Advanced... and then click the Folders tab.

  3. From the pull-down menu next to to "Store sent messages in this folder:", select Choose... . Select the folder in which you want to save your mail, and click Choose.

    Note: You may also designate the locations of your Drafts, Junk, and Trash folders in this window.

  4. Click OK to save your changes, and close the Accounts window.

Entourage 2008

  1. From the Tools menu, select Accounts... .

  2. In the Accounts window, double-click the name of your account. In the window that opens, click the Advanced tab.

  3. In the "Special Folders" section, check Store sent messages in this IMAP folder: . From the pull-down menu, select Choose... . Select the folder in which you want to save your mail, and click Choose.

    Note: You may also designate the locations of your Drafts, Junk, and Trash folders in this window.

  4. Click OK to save your changes, and close the Accounts window.
