If I use a cable modem or DSL, how do I keep my computer secure?
Regardless of your operating system, you need to be vigilant about the possible security risks involved with connecting to the Internet via cable modem or DSL. Because your computer may be connected to the Internet for long periods of time with a static IP address, your computer can be compromised much more easily than if you were using a regular dial-up connection.
For all systems, follow the instructions in Best practices for computer security.
For more information, refer to SecureMac.com's Connections and Protections: Cable and DSL Connections and Security Measures.
