ARCHIVED: In Outlook Express 5 or 6 for Windows, using IMAP, how can I view messages in the preview pane when it says "Message has not been downloaded"?

If you are unable to view messages in the preview pane in Outlook Express 5 or 6 for Windows, you may see the notification "Message has not been downloaded". This message means that Outlook Express is configured not to download messages immediately when using the preview pane.

To configure Outlook Express to download messages automatically:

  1. With Outlook Express open, from the Tools menu, select Options... .

  2. In the Options window, click the Read tab.

  3. Check the box for Automatically download message when viewing in the Preview Pane. Click OK.
