This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Mac OS X has an FTP server built in. To activate it, follow these instructions:

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences....
  2. In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Sharing.
  3. Check the FTP Access (OS X 10.2.x and later) or Allow FTP Access (OS X 10.1.x and earlier) checkbox.

Once you have done this, all users with an account on your computer will be able to connect to it via FTP using their usernames and passwords. You must have an Internet connection before you can use your computer as an FTP server, however.
