Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 is an integrated component of Windows 2000. Unlike IIS 4.0, it is not available as a separate download.

When you install IIS, you can choose among several subcomponents.

If IIS 5.0 has not already been installed on your Windows 2000 computer, follow these steps to install it:

  1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel. Then select Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Select Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. Select the Internet Information Services (IIS) component, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: Web servers have become easy targets for hackers to attack. This is especially true for Microsoft's IIS servers, because most features are turned on by default (e.g., anonymous FTP). For information about securing your IIS installation, refer to UISO's "How to... Protect IIS" page at:

This information comes from Microsoft Help and Support article 266115, which also contains more information about installing, using, and securing IIS 5.0.
