ARCHIVED: In IUB or IUPUI campus housing, how do I obtain an IP address for my computer?

An IP address is your computer's unique address on the Internet. In Indiana University Bloomington campus and Greek housing, and IUPUI campus housing, your computer must acquire its IP address dynamically using DHCP. The UITS Get Connected software for IU campus housing residents will properly configure DHCP.

In IUB and IUPUI campus and Greek housing, UITS will not assign a static IP address unless you have special circumstances related to your academic work. You will need a faculty sponsor and you must provide the following information:

  • Your sponsor's name, Network ID username, and department

  • Your campus address and phone number, and your Ethernet card's MAC address

  • Specific details as to why you need a static IP

For more information, or to request a static IP address, send email to  tcciub@indiana.edu .

Note: You can use Get Connected to register your Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Mac OS X (10.3 and later) computer to use the Indiana University network in campus housing. Computers running Windows 2000 or Linux, as well as game consoles, must be manually registered. For help, contact the UITS Support Center. You cannot register earlier versions of Windows on the IU network in campus housing.
