What is the HRMS/SIS project?

The mission of the Human Resources Management Systems team is to provide analysis, design, application development, deployment, and support of all enterprise systems used to manage the employment records, benefits, and payroll for all university faculty, staff, and hourly workers. The enterprise systems in this area consist largely of Oracle's PeopleSoft Campus Solutions products, an IU-specific electronic document front-end, an IU-developed TimeKeeping system for both hourly and biweekly employees, and a Faculty Annual Reporting application. This team is also responsible for the development and support of employee self-service applications related to payroll advice and W2 viewing, benefit changes, and direct deposit enrollment and adjustments.
The Student Information System (SIS) provides a university-wide computing environment for student administration at Indiana University. The SIS addresses such key functions as student recruitment, admissions, records, registration, grades, transcripts, advising, financial aid, and student bursar accounts.

The mission of the HRMS/SIS project is to create an integrated information technology environment for students, faculty, and staff at IU. The goal of the HRMS/SIS project is to focus on customers, services, and integration for end users by providing:

  • A web-based, self-service environment for students, parents, prospective students, and employees

  • An administrative transaction processing environment for university staff to conduct day-to-day business

  • An information environment in which IU faculty and staff can report, extract data, and analyze information

  • PeopleSoft Student Administration and HRMS products

  • Support and training for customers

The HRMS (Human Resource Management System) implementation on December 2, 2002, affected a number of human resource and payroll policies and processes for academic, staff, and hourly employees, as well as for departments in general. For a comprehensive list and description of these changes, please see the following web page:

Note: The information at the site above has been prepared for the use of departments and administrators. In January 2003, all Indiana University employees received information on payroll and other changes pertaining to HRMS with their first paycheck or pay advice.
